Microneedling Fast Facts
Microneedling is a procedure that uses small needles to prick the skin.
The purpose of treatment is to generate new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, more toned skin.
Microneedling is mostly used on the face and may treat various scars, wrinkles, and large pores.
Microneedling is minimally invasive, requiring no downtime.
You’ll experience minor redness and irritation for a few days after the procedure.
It’s considered effective in treating minor scarring related to acne, wounds, and aging. You will likely notice brighter, firmer skin, too.
Multiple session are required for ideal results.
Microneedling is far more effective than at-home rollers.
What is microneedling?
Simply put, microneedling is the insertion of very fine short, sterilised needles into the skin for rejuvenation. When the skin feels these pinpricks, your body will naturally rush to heal them, resulting in a plumped, more youthful appearance.
Microneedling works by encouraging your skin to make more collagen. The idea is that pinpricks from the procedure cause slight injury to the skin and that the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue.
This new skin tissue is, in turn, more even in tone and texture. It’s normal for the skin to lose collagen via age or injury. By encouraging the skin to make new tissue, there may be more collagen to help make the skin firmer, too.
Targeted areas for microneedling
Microneedling is most often used on your face to target:
age spots (also called “sun spots”)
fine lines and wrinkles
reduced skin elasticity
uneven skin tone
What to expect after microneedling
Microneedling isn’t invasive so the recovery time is minimal. Most people require very little downtime, if any at all.
You may notice skin irritation and redness within the first few days following the procedure. This is a natural response to the small “injuries” made by the needles in your skin.
You can go back to work after the procedure if you are comfortable.
Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so sunscreen is necessary.
After microneedling, your skin works quickly to rejuvenate new tissue. In theory, you should see results within a couple of weeks.
To maintain the results of your treatment, you will need multiple sessions and perhaps other complementing treatments.
Microneedling vs home rollers
Microneedling is a professional procedure that is carried out by a qualified practitioner only. In an effort to save money, some people opt for home rollers instead. Unlike professional microneedling, rollers do not puncture the skin hardly at all.
While this might seem a less painful option, the problem is that you won’t achieve the same results. The punctures made during professional microneedling are designed to induce skin rejuvenation.
With a roller device, you may achieve brighter skin at best.
If you’re interested in more dramatic, long-term results, microneedling is a better option than a store-bought roller device.
Advanced Microneedling & Radio Frequency
Microneedling & Radio Frequency is the latest up-and-coming solution for the ultimate ‘non-surgical face lift’ and is in extremely high demand after the extensive coverage that the treatment has received throughout the press, with celebrities raving about the treatment. It is a minimally invasive treatment that greatly reduces fine lines, wrinkles, and lifts skin – while promoting collagen and elastin production.
How does it work?
It comes with all of the benefits outlined for standalone Mirconeedling but Microneedling & Radio Frequency is a significantly advanced method of skin rejuvenation that stimulates the body’s natural healing process to encourage collagen production in the dermis resulting in rejuvenated and tightened skin. During treatment, the radio frequency energy is delivered through the insulated needles allowing precise delivery to the dermis while protecting the epidermis layers of the skin. The radio frequency wave penetrates the basal melanocyte barrier, heating the collagen fibres in the dermis to 55C–65C. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process, increasing cell turnover as the body heals – resulting in the production of collagen and elastin in these areas.
This treatment is so versatile that it can be used to target a number of concerns on both the face and body including:
• Lines and wrinkles
• Overall skin texture
• Sun-damaged skin
• Pitting of skin
• Brightening and lightening
• Sagging skin
• Stretch marks
Although results can be seen following a one-off treatment, a course of three treatments is typically recommended for optimal results, with an annual maintenance treatment to maintain results. Treatment times typically range from 20–60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.
Popular Treatment Areas include:
• Brow lifting
• Crow’s feet
• Nasolabial fold
